SOCKS UP FOR WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT
Today the Rotary Club of Port Macquarie West is attempting to create the world’s longest washing line of socks to raise $150, 000 for four local charities.
The current world record is 6,066 metres long and held by CAJ Halverde, Germany, but the Aussie club is determined to ‘sock it.’
Their target is to collect 100,000 socks, proudly hanging them across the Sovereign Place Town Centre greens on a custom-built 10,000 metre washing line.
For each sock, pegged one centimetre apart, Rotary is seeking a gold donation from community members to reach its goal.
The charities involved are Endeavour Mental Health Recovery Clubhouse, Soldier On, YP Space (for youth homelessness) and Hastings Education Fund, all of which were hit hard during COVID.
Following the challenge, the pairs of socks will be donated to charities and sent to Fiji while single socks will be recycled by Textiles Recyclers Australia.
