TAMWORTH COUNCIL UPS THE FEES ON CBD PARKING

Free car parking spots in the busiest parts of Tamworth’s CBD will soon be axed.

From Monday, spaces on Peel, Marius and Bourke Streets will become metered – with a time limit of two hours.

Meanwhile, parks on Fitzroy and White Streets will drop from four hours to two.

“They’re obviously the areas where we want people to stay for only a couple of hours to do their shopping and get done what they need to do and, unfortunately, the best way to get people to get the job done and move on is to have parking fees in those areas.”

The decision comes as Tamworth Regional Council opens an extension to its paid car park on White Street, which will open up an additional 40 parking spaces.
