REHOMING FACILITY FOR TROTS ANNOUNCED FOR BERESFIELD

The Hunter will become home to a rehoming facility for harness racing horses.

The Beresfield facility will retrain horses to work for disabled riders and other special needs groups.

Wagga Wagga, Bathurst, Tamworth and Goulburn will also receive a share of $1.3 million in funding.

Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Taylor Martin said the facility will support local jobs.

“The Standardbred has a gentle nature which has proven to be the perfect companion for so many and when retrained to be ridden, will offer many people a lifetime friend,” Mr Martin said.

Minister responsible for racing Kevin Anderson said the program will have huge benefits for communities.

“Racehorses are intelligent and good natured, making them a perfect companion animal and a great addition to your family. We know that retraining ex racehorses can take a significant amount of time and effort, but it is well worth it and this facility will dramatically enhance HRNSW’s rehoming capabilities.”
