MORE THAN 16 PERCENT OF TODAY’S COVID-19 CASES FROM HUNTER NEW ENGLAND
COVID-19 infections continue to climb in the Hunter New England health district with 98 cases recorded in the 24 hours to 8pm last night.
It’s yet another record for the region just days before freedom day.
41 of the cases were infectious in the community and 48 are linked.
28 people are being treated in hospital and three are in ICU.
There are now 1,074 active cases in the local health district.
The state recorded 580 new cases and 11 deaths.
Dr Kerry Chant said the Hunter, Taree and Port Macquarie are becoming of increasing concern.

Traces of the virus has also been detected in sewage at Dungog, Crescent Head and Ballina.
