Warnings Northern Rivers could be hit by potential ‘supercell’ storms

Northern Rivers residents are being put on alert ahead of forecast thunderstorms this evening, set to impact the coast from Port Stephens to Yamba.

The weather bureau is warning of a potential ‘supercell’ which can bring hail, winds and significant rainfall with the potential for rivers to rise.

“What we can expect is because of our catchments and being saturated at the time we can expect major flash flooding in our problem areas which the community is aware of where they are,” said Mark Elm SES Deputy Zone Commander.

Residents, and visitors to the Northern Rivers should take extra care to prepare for storm activity and stay across the latest warnings.
