Off-duty police officer charged over alleged assault
An off-duty policer officer has been charged over an alleged assault of a woman and two officers in the Hunter region yesterday.
Around 11:25am Tuesday morning, officers from Port Stephen-Hunter Police District received reports of an assault and attended a home in Horseshoe bend.
Upon arrival, police located a woman suffering facial injuries on a footpath outside the home.
The woman was known to the off-duty officer.
Officers attempted to talk with a man at the property before he allegedly tackled two officers to the ground.
A constable suffered minor facial injuries and a leading senior constable sustained an injury to his knee, which required further treatment at hospital.
The off-duty police officer allegedly resisted and a short time later was arrested and taken to Maitland Police Station.
The 29-year-old, senior constable attached to a specialist command was charged with a number of offences, he was refused bail to appear before Maitland Local Court today.
The man’s employment status is currently under review.
