COFFS COUNCIL VOTES FOR BUDGET DEFICIT

The Coffs Harbour City Council has agreed to a budget deficit of around $180,000 for the 2011-2012 financial year.

Mayor Keith Rhoades said the budget reflects the difficult economic climate being experienced by local government in New South Wales.

He said despite the financial pressures the council intends to proceed with a $1-million upgrade of the jetty foreshores, which will include new barbeques, picnic shelters and amenities blocks.

The council will also spend $800,000 improving Richardson Park and the new regional museum.
