A man in his 30s is being treated in Newcastle’s Mater Hospital after being bitten by a snake near Forster.
He was renovating a house at Coomba Park when he reached into the roof cavity, and was bitten by a steven banded snake.
The man was airlifted to Newcastle and transferred to the Mater’s toxicology unit.
Experts warn snakes are becoming more active as the breeding season approaches.
