**A warning to our Indigenous viewers, this post contains images of a deceased person**

The family of Tane Chatfield has called for an independent body to investigate deaths in custody.

The 22-year-old was about to be released from Tamworth Correctional Facility in September 2017, when he suddenly died.

His family suspects foul play, while New South Wales Corrections maintains the young man’s death was the result of a seizure.

“Waiting for almost three years with no answers about our son’s death has taken a huge toll on our family. With grieving, you are supposed to have a process of acceptance and moving forward… But without answers, we’ve been stuck.”

The inquest into his death wrapped up in Sydney today.

The case will return to the New South Wales Coroner’s Court on August 26.
