It’s a peculiar competition, and one which the North Coast TAFE continues to excel at.
The Golden Trowel Contest, pits bricklayer against bricklayer, to see who’s more handy with the tools.
Each of the twelve two man teams of apprentices builds a brick and block wall for the judges.
And the experience may come in handy, with work for brickies on new housing developments expected to pick up when the Pacific Highway upgrade is completed locally.
“So we’re hoping once that happens that the industry’s going to get a kick start and get these guys more work,” said Mark Wyborn
from North Coast TAFE.
The winners of the National Golden Trowel contest will be announced later tonight.
