Members of the No Tillegra Dam group are winding their way to Newcastle, walking alongside the Williams River.
The protesters set out from Dungog last Sundayhoping to draw attention to the diversity of the Williams, and what they believe will be its destruction if the proposed dam goes ahead.
As well as the loss of farmland, the group claims fish habitats would be damaged downstream.
The walk culminates with a community picnic on the Newcastle Foreshore midday Saturday.
