MAN CUTS OFF HIS HAND IN WORKPLACE INCIDENT

A man has been raced to hospital after severing his hand at a Newcastle chicken factory this morning.

NSW Ambulance sent three crews and a specialist medical team to Hawthorne Street at Beresfield around 8:45am, following reports of workplace injury at Baiada’s chicken processing plant.

Inspector Mark Gardiner says paramedics treated the man, believed to be in his 30s, and took him to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

“This was a very gruesome injury,” said Mr Gardiner.

“We have been responding to a lot of workplace incidents of late, we need everyone to be more vigilant when at work and look out for their colleagues.”
