24 hours of rain has caused havoc at a Newcastle bowling club.
The northern end of Merewether Bowling Club is being swallowed by a hole, created as part of a unit development next to the club.
So far, a huge palm tree, fence, and seating have disappeared. It’s now threatening to take a concrete path and potentially part of the bowling green.
Fire and Rescue New South Wales is on the scene.

The builder gambled as it was summer there would be no rain and thus could excavate without need for a lot of embankment reinforcing, but this year has been an exceptional wet summer!. funny thing is a roofer attempted to tell me summer is the wet season!, yer right, i don’t live in the north of Australia!
I am overcome with fear and nostalgia. Fear that this may somehow interfere with my stellar bowling career and nostalgia thinking about all the time I spent sitting in the shade of that old palm tree !
