WET, MUDDY … IT’S HELL ON WHEELS

It’s going to be wet and muddy but mother nature’s not going to get the better of 30 riders taking part in this year’s Hell on Wheels.

The eight-day, 600-kilometre rescue helicopter fundraiser starts on Saturday in Dorrigo.

“We’ll cope with that. We’ll find alternate routes if necessary. We’re going to get muddy, that’s all part of the fun,” said the tour’s director, Tony Keogh.

Since the event started 12 years ago, riders have clocked up 250,000 kays and raised more than half a million dollars to keep the helicopter in the air.

“This is no ride for your latte sipping roadies. this is a serious ride for the boys that want to get out in the bush and have some fun,” Mr Keogh said.

Among those who’ve signed up is chief pilot Lynton Beggs who’ll be keen to share some of his rescue stories around the evening campfire.
