SIXTH HENDRA DEATH ON NORTH COAST

Hendra virus has struck in northern New South Wales once again, this time at a property near Ballina.
The affected horse started showing neurological symptoms on Sunday afternoon and was euthanased on Monday.
Two other horses are also on the property.
“The property is quarantined and these horses will have to be monitored. We’ll test them now, day 16 and day 32.”
Horse owners are once again being urged to store feed and water away from trees.
“Our basic message is whenever there is a flying fox that is feeding or roosting in trees, you should try to get the horses away from those areas.”
The latest death is the sixth in New South Wales since late June.
