NEW BYPASS PLAN FOR BYRON

Ballina MP, Don Page has lent his support to a proposal he describes as a “genuine” bypass of Byron Bay.
The only road in and out the iconic coastal town is gridlocked during holiday periods.
But the latest bypass proposal, which runs from Melaleuca Drive in the north to Bangalow Road in the south, aims to alleviate the problem.
“It enables people for example from the new sporting fields or from the industrial estate to be able to go across to southern Byron Bay or to Suffolk Park or Baywood Chase or Byron Hills all those places, without having to go anywhere near the centre of town.”
On the plus side only a few landholders are affected – but it does cross a section of wetland.
“Rather than just putting a road straight through the middle of it you can actually build a bridge which would minimise any impacts.”
