MAN WITH GUN ARRESTED AT MARDI GRASS

A 30-year-old man is undergoing a psychiatric assessment after allegedly walking to Nimbin’s Mardi Grass festival with a rifle.

Police say they approached the man on Mountain Top Road after a tip-off from the public.

“he was confronted at gunpoint and was arrested without incident by police who did a very good job under the circumstances”

Meantime police say they’re disappointed by the high number of arrests made at the festival.

Officers were called to 397 incidents over the three-day period and made 43 drug detections.

But in general, people’s behaviour was given the thumbs up.

“the behaviour of people out there was generally good antisocial behaviour was down again”
