BYRON VOTES FOR MORATORIUM ON COAL SEAM GAS

Following widespread community concern, Byron Shire Council has elected to hold a moratorium on Coal Seam Gas Mining.
Companies have been scouting out potential sites all across the Northern Rivers.
Council wants to put a stop to drilling until the community gets up to speed.
“We really don’t have good information about how the companies are going about their explorations and putting in applications and that’s the point of this. We need to be better informed.”
Council will use the time to address the economic and environmental impacts coal seam gas mining could have on the Byron Shire.
