The long wait is almost over for Byron Bay residents living at Wategos Beach and Lighthouse Road.
Repairs to the walkway and section of road that collapsed in heavy rain six years ago, will be completed just in time for Christmas.
Council says difficulties relocating water, sewerage and phone cables from the site are among the reasons the project has taken so long to complete.
