The Northern Rivers has copped a drenching today, with Yamba topping the list, receiving over 100 millimetres of rain since nine this morning.
The downpour caused localised flooding in hot spots across the region, making it difficult for motorists to get anywhere, even home.
While the rain should ease overnight, dangerous conditions off shore are expected to continue.
Wild seas pounded the coast today and the swell is expected to increase tonight.
Locals were being warned the large surf could lead to coastal erosion between Point Danger and Yamba.
