Three men have had lucky escapes after their boats capsized on Ballina Bar in two separate incidents.
The first vessel, carrying two men, tipped on the northern section of the bar just after six this morning.
The men swam to shore but so far their boat hasn’t been recovered.
Then around nine o’clock, a fisherman was plucked from the water by Marine Rescue and his vessel towed to shore after it rolled while attempting to cross at the southern end.
Neither boats had checked in with the tower.
“We really can’t stress enough how important it is for people to can ring the tower. We’ll tell them what the bar’s like, leave all their details including their mobile phone and always assess the bar themselves.”
