WILD WEATHER ACROSS COASTAL NNSW

With nerves frayed from a flood emergency just three weeks agao, the people of Northern New South Wales are again at mother nature’s mercy.

The deep low pressure system that keen weatherwatchers have been keeping an eye, is slowly moving south bringing with it strong wind, heavy rain and wild seas that are pounding the coast between the Queensland border and Sydney.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Ewan Mitchell says the low pressure system is likely to cross the far north coast on Friday afternoon or evening.
“There have been heavy showers up there overnight, falls of up to about 90 millimetres so far,” he said.

The SES has deployed special flood rescue and storm teams to the mid north coast and north coast, while its army of volunteers is on standby. Eight helicopters have been deployed to the area, while floodboats and and other specialist equipment is also at the ready.

Flood warnings for minor flooding are current for the Bellinger, Wilsons and Orara rivers
