North Coast MP, Don Page has criticised the criteria set out by the federal government, for farmers seeking category C funding following recent storm events.
He says having to have more than 30 per cent of the region’s farmers affected is too difficult to meet.
“The reality is that the damage is much more focused on a few industries, depending on what type of storm or flood event you’re having.”
It comes as Ballina and Byron Shires were unsuccessful in their attempts to gain assistance.
But Mr Page says it isn’t too late, and affected farmers should still contact the Department of Primary Industries.
“In some cases people didn’t realise they had to let the DPI know and so their damage hasn’t been included into the figures.”
