KIDNEY RALLY ANGERS LOCAL RESIDENTS

The Kidney Rally is known for its great work, but on the weekend residents of the Bungawalbin Whiporie had a different opinion of the charity event.
Protesters took to the roads for the annual event, causing a stir with residents of Bungawalbin along the way.
I am disgusted that this story even made it on the news. Does this woman have any idea how much money and how many lives have been saved because of events such as these. I think she is totally missing the point. So the rally stirred up a little dust and disrupted her life for no more than one hour and she complains because as I see it she is selfish. All I wanna say is GET OVER IT.
Kate, you have just written yourself a blank cheque to do whatever you like without consideration of others. The dust and disruption might have been more acceptable if there had been notification to residents that motorists would be doing dare-devil speeds that were potentially dangerous to cyclists and pedestrians. The correct way to deal with this would be to close the road to general users for the duration of the rally; too much trouble? Some people should learn to knock politely at the front door instead of just barging in through the back entrance.
After viewing the clip a few times I would like to post my “opinion”. The lady interviewed has her right to broadcast her opinion however it is just that, an opinion. We should not confuse motor vehicle noise with speed, these are two completely different things. If you pick a start point & estimate 100mtrs the shown vehicle takes approx 4.5 secounds to cover this. Do your math & this equates to 79 km/hrs. Without a radar this is the only way to “judge” speed. As far as I am aware the speed limit for rural roads is well above this at 100km/hr.
Another Opinion posted……. but this time with some factual body !!!
Jeff, I am actually not involved in the rally but I have done my research and believe there was a letter box drop in the area informing residents of the rally. I just can’t believe that there is so much anger about an event that raises close to a million dollars a year for children with kidney disease. Let’s just hope that you, your family or your friends are never affected by Kidney Disease because this amazing foundation would be the first to support you in such a crisis.
Kate, apparently you failed to listen to the fact that this area provides habitat for the endangered coastal emu. There is only a very small population of this iconic bird left on the North Coast and to hold a road rally, regardless of good intentions, in one of their last remaining strongholds is very disappointing to those of us that work to preserve this magnificent bird.
There are a million ways to raise money for charity, somehow I think the rally part was more for the benefit of the motor enthusiasts than the charity. How about a bicycle rally next time, which is more in keeping with the surroundings and considerate of residents both human and otherwise. We’d be out there with cold drinks, a wave and donations for participants.
Hi,
I was the driver in the 4×4 that was pulling up at the camera. The guy doing the filming was standing on the road in our way. If I was doing the speeds they claim I would have ran him over. We pulled up and tried to speck to him about why all the cars were on the road. His main complaint to us was that he did not like the dust we were kicking up while driving pass on the public road! Also that we had no right to be on his road. (Which is a public road.)
If he did not like the dust maybe don’t live on a dusty road. Last I checked anyone is allowed to use these roads as long as you stick to the road rules. Seems to me they are happy to stir things up without the facts.
