Ballina Council has voted to write to the state government, asking that all Petroleum Exploration Licences be revoked in the region.
Councillor Jeff Johnson says the majority of the community is against the industry, and council is calling on the government to declare the Northern Rivers, Gasfield Free.
It comes after Metgasco’s drilling was suspended at Bentley, over a lack of community consultation.
Dart Energy holds the exploration license which covers Ballina Shire.
