TURF CLUB PRAYS FOR CUP SUNSHINE

The turf has been preened and the drinks will be flowing when punters walk through the gates tomorrow for Lismore’s premier race day.
The jockey club is hoping a bumper crowd will help financially redeem a year marred by wet weather and cancelled race meets.
“We do about 30-40% of our annual income tomorrow so it’s a really important meeting and we want it to go well and everyone to enjoy themselves.”
With horses lining up from as far away as Brisbane and Taree, organisers are expecting a strong day of racing.
“All of our races have got high numbers of acceptances. We had 150 nominations which is also a good sign.”
The $45,000 Lismore Cup is scheduled to run just after 5 o’clock tomorrow.
