RAILWAY ACTION GROUP HOPEFUL

Little by little, plans to reinstate a train line from Casino to Murwillumbah appear to once again be gaining momentum. The Railway Action Group maintains it would be the best course of action for the region.

  1. $900million is a furphy. It was just after the line closed in 2004 when the Nationals did a fesability study and it concluded it would cost $24 million to get it back up and running, so for it to go from $24million to $900million in the space of 10 years is just not possible.

    Elements of Byron did a study on the section of track from Byron Railway Station to Bayshore Drive and it concluded it would cost up to 300,000 per kilometre – not the millions the government predicted. Elements of Byron will have their railmotor service going from Lawson Street to Bayshore Drive running by the end of the year.

    So the question I ask is; If a privately owned resort can do it, why cant the NSW Government?
