CATHEDRAL FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION

Police are investigating a fire at St Carthages Cathedral on the north coast this morning.
Emergency services were called to Dawson Street, Lismore, just after 6.30am to see smoke billowing from the building.
Fire and Rescue extinguished the blaze, which caused significant damage.
No one was inside at the time.
In a statement posted to YouTube, Bishop Greg Homeming thanked emergency services for their work containing the fire.
“I thank the police and the fire brigade for their good work. A damaged building is a damaged building, it’s only a damaged building. The church is the people of God.”
Police are now investigating the incident, which is being treated as suspicious.
They’re urging people to avoid the area.
