It now seems likely Lismore’s historic Lions Fountain will remain standing, following community protests.
While a final decision is yet to be made, a compromise appears to have been reached between council and the local Lions club.
A vote on its future is set to be held on Tuesday.
The deal would see the fountain carefully refurbished and new artwork added nearby, with work jointly-funded by both organisations.
The fountain had initially been slated for demolition.
