DRUG DRIVER CHARGED AFTER ROAD FATALITY IN LISMORE
A man has been charged following a fatal crash in the state’s north earlier this year.
On 7 July, police and emergency services were called to a section of the Pacific Highway in Broadwater near Lismore after a head-on collision between a Toyota and an Isuzu.
A female passenger in the Toyota died at the scene, while the driver and other passengers were seriously injured.
The 31-year-old male driver of the Isuzu was also taken to hospital with fractures to both feet.
Following investigations, police will alledge that the driver of the Isuzu was under the influence of methylamphetamine and cannabis-type substances at the time of the crash.
The man from Bellbird in Queensland will now face a number of charges including dangerous driving occasioning death while under the influence of drugs, negligent driving occasioning death, and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The man is due to appear before Lismore Local Court on 11 April 2016.
