THIEVES TAKE FIRE TRUCK ON JOYRIDE DURING CRIME SPREE

Thieves have taken a fire truck for a joyride, before taking off with vital fire fighting equipment, during an overnight crime spree at Coraki on the state’s north coast.

Police say the Coraki Fire Station was broken into some time between 4pm on Sunday and 6am on Monday.

The robbers drove the truck from the station, before abandoning it a short distance away at Adams Street.

Several other fire fighting tools were also taken.

During a search of a home at Box Ridge on Monday afternoon, officers uncovered the missing equipment, along with other stolen items.

It’s believed the same thieves may be behind break-ins at two residential properties, a golf club and a nursing home during the same period.

“Emergency service equipment is vital to ensure the safety of the local community. Stealing items for personal gain which can save lives is disappointing,” Richmond Local Area Command Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector Cameron Lindsay said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
