WEBSITE SHOWS RISING SEAS COULD INUNDATE BALLINA

Rising sea levels could leave low-lying coastal towns across Australia, including Ballina, inundated during future high tides.

Mapping company NGIS’ recently launched Coastal Risk Australia tool shows king tides could flood most of Ballina by the year 2100 if sea levels continue to rise due to climate change.

Ballina Shire Council is yet to verify the website’s mapping, but admits its forecasts show some low-lying homes around the Ballina island area may be impacted by tidal surges in the future.
