TRIAL OF CATHOLIC PRIEST COMMENCES

The trial of a Catholic priest, accused of abusing three children, has commenced in Lismore’s District Court.

Father John Patrick Casey allegedly sexually assaulted two of the children, brothers aged 9 and 11, in the Lismore Diocese during the 1980s.

No details are known about the third victim.

Casey, now in his late 60s, is facing around 30 charges stemming from the alleged assaults.

The accused is contesting all of the charges and is being represented by prominent QC Charles Waterstreet.
