HUNTER PLAYERS CLEAN UP WITH NSW COUNTRY RUGBY AWARDS

Newcastle University’s Kate Gilbert has been named New South Wales Country Rugby’s Women’s Player of the Year.
The men’s award also went to a Hunter-based player, The Waratahs and New South Wales Country tight head prop forward, Alain Miriallakis.
He made his rep debut for the Cockatoos this year and becomes the first prop to win the award in its 19-year history.

Mitchell Hughes

Mitchell Hughes started as a tape editor in Newcastle in 1999. He became a reporter in 2004, working in Lismore and on the Gold Coast. Since moving back to the Newcastle office in 2006, he's taken on various roles, such as producer and chief of staff. He became the head sport reporter in 2011 and the main sport presenter in 2015.
