COUNCIL TARGETS ILLEGAL CAMPERS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

With the festive season upon us, Byron Shire Council has issued a warning to visitors, ‘pay or don’t stay’.
During peak tourist season, illegal campers can cause significant problems in the Shire.
So council staff are encouraging all visitors to ensure they’re using one of the 15 allocated campgrounds in the area.
Enforcement staff will be working around the clock, issuing fines to everyone caught camping illegally or sleeping in their cars.
Fines range from an on-the-spot fine of $110 per person to a hefty $2200.
