POLICE ISSUE A WARNING FOR FLOOD SIGHTSEERS AND LOOTERS
Police have increased patrols of flood-affected regions in the state’s north, following reports on social media of possible looting.
Both uniform and plain clothes officers are on the lookout for instances of theft in Tumbulgum, Murwillumbah and Chinderah.
Offenders face prosecution if caught.
The caution follows a warning from police to those attending the region for sightseeing purposes, and to get ‘selfies’ with destroyed property.
People in the region are focused on restoring their lives and property, and it may be dangerous given the condition of the roads in the area.
