WHALES HEADED FOR NETS
There’s concerns whales migrating up the East Coast could be the latest casualties in the North Coast shark net trial.
Every year, an estimated 40,000 endangered humpback whales pass close to Byron Bay.
Conservationists warn many migrating early, could become entangled in the shark nets, and die.
“I’m incredibly disappointed and upset that the whales that are just starting to pass now, could join the other whales up in Queensland that get tangled up every year”
In other parts of the state, shark nets are removed on April 30.
The six-month shark net trial is due to end next month.
