ONLOOKERS HELP SAVE WOMAN TRAPPED IN PARTIALLY SUBMERGED CAR
Quick-thinking bystanders have come to the rescue of an elderly woman who became trapped in a partially submerged car in the far north of New South Wales.
Police say the 73-year-old woman was reversing her car on a property in Wooyung, 35km north of Byron Bay, around 9am this morning, when it slid into a creek.
The woman was trapped in the car – a late model white Toyota Prado – with her head just above water, allowing her to breath.
Her husband, a family friend, and two nearby residents came to her aid and contacted emergency services.
She was rescued by a NSW Volunteer Rescue Association raft and taken to Tweed Heads Hospital via ambulance, with a suspected fractured leg and hypothermia.
