HUNTER WATER TURNS 125
One of the Hunter’s most recognisable bodies is celebrating its 125th birthday.
On this day in 1892, the ‘Hunter District Water Supply and Sewerage Board’ was formed to control the region’s water system.
Key moments in the history of Hunter Water include the building of the Chichester Dam in 1926, the upgrade of the Burwood Beach Wastewater Treatment Works in 1989, and the introduction of a ‘user pays’ pricing system in 1982.
Hunter Water memorabilia will be on display at a special exhibition at Newcastle Regional Museum from September.
To mark the anniversary, Hunter Water is partnering with the University of Newcastle to launch an innovation award for students and Hunter Water employees.
