FIG TREE FIGHT DIVIDES LENNOX STREET
Residents of Lennox Head’s Castle Drive are currently fighting a neighbourbood battle, that rivals the similarly named Aussie film.
Some want a heritage fig tree axed before its roots permanently damage their homes – others say removing it would be a travesty.

I lived next to this tree 40 odd years ago when all that area was farm land. That hill and the fig trees were a land mark and should remain. Anyone that bought a block near one of these trees should have known the risk or at least been notified by the council or the developer. Once again natural occurring vegetation must go because we wanted to live next to the tree but now it’s a problem to our big money house. Wake up Lennox you missed seeing the place at it’s natural best and now continue to denigrate the area.
Sadly Peter, today we lost the battle to save the tree. Council voted to remove it, the Mayor cast the final blow to the tree. How fortunate you were to live here so long ago and see it’s natural beauty. I live close enough to see the tree through my windows, it will be a very distressing day when it is chopped down.
