A wanted man who allegedly cut off an ankle bracelet and moved to Queensland has been arrested in Kingscliff, on the New South Wales Far North Coast.
Officers arrested the 37-year-old on Marine Parade around 9 o’clock on Monday, after nearby residents noticed two men allegedly attempting to gain access to mail boxes along the street.
Police say one man gave a false identity to the officers. A search of the man revealed his drivers license stated a different name, and he was also found to be carrying a knife.
He was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where his true identity was confirmed, revealing he had two outstanding warrants for domestic violence offences.
The warrants were executed and he was also charged with goods in custody and custody of knife in a public place.
Superintendent Wayne Humphrey saying “Someone who removes a monitoring device and tries to use a false identity is clearly of high risk to the community and police will take all steps to locate and arrest them.”
He was refused bail, and is due to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court today.
