DRAMATIC POLICE PURSUIT IN THE NORTHERN RIVERS
Two children have escaped uninjured, after a dramatic police pursuit in the state’s north in which a Ford Ranger rammed multiple police cars.
Officers attempted to stop a vehicle on River Street at Ballina just before 11 o’clock last night, but the car accelerated away.
It’s alleged the 25-year-old driver, who was wanted for serious offences in Queensland, called Triple 000 during the pursuit to make threats towards police.
The pursuit was called off due to safety concerns before the car was spotted further south at Lismore.
A second began on the Summerland Way just after 1am, with the Ford Ranger reversing into a highway patrol vehicle before ramming a second police car.
One of the vehicle’s narrowly missed an officer who was attempting to lay road spikes.
The 25-year-old man was arrested after a short struggle and two children, aged six and eight, were located uninjured in the car.
The man was charged with 28 offences including seven counts of assaulting police.
His female passenger was also charged with a number of offences.
Both will face court later today.
