Police and bystanders were unable to revive a man, after his car left the road and plunged into a creek near Uki last night.
The 67-year old was trapped underwater, before eventually being pulled unconscious from the wreckage of his VW Golf.
CPR was attempted, however, he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
His 72 year old female passenger was taken to Tweed Heads hospital for observation.
