Firefighters are bracing for another day of strong winds, with a number of blazes across the state yet to be contained.
It followed a testing day for emergency services on Saturday, in which several communities came under threat from major fires near Kempsey and south of Grafton.
Late on Saturday, the focus for firefighters turned to a blaze at Kangaroo Creek, with an emergency warning issued just after 10 o’clock.
Text message alerts were sent to local residents at Hayards Crossing and Kungala, with the out-of-control blaze pushed towards homes by strong north westerly winds.
Today, waterboming aircraft are working to support crews on the ground, with residents on Parker Road, Citris Drive and Perch Road urged to monitor the situation.
There remains a Watch & Act level warning in place for residents at Rappville, south of Casino, with a fire burning along Clearfield Road.
Firefighters are in place to protect a number of isolated properties.
The blaze last night came within a few hundred metres of homes, with the Sydney to Brisbane railway line closed.
Earlier on Saturday, a number of remote properties at Verges Creek near Crescent Head came under threat.
The fire, which has scorched more than 800 hectares, is listed by RFS as being out of control, although there’s currently no threat to homes.
Loftus Road will remain closed overnight.
Watch & Act warnings were also issued for fires at Whitemans Creek near Grafton and at Turners Flat west of Kempsey.
