MEASLES WARNING: CHILD DIAGNOSED IN BYRON BAY
North Coast health authorities are warning of a potential measles outbreak after a child in Byron Bay was diagnosed with the infectious disease.
The child developed symptoms four days after returning from a trip to New Zealand and visited the following locations in and around Byron Bay while infectious:
- Friday 30 August Attended the Byron Bay and/or Suffolk Park shopping areas during the day.
- Sunday 1 September (Fathers’ Day) Attended the Harvest Deli & Bakery in Newrybar between about 10am and 11am. Attended Elements Resort and Spa, Byron Bay, Between around 5.30pm and 7.00pm
Anyone who was in Byron Bay, Suffolk Park or Newrybar over the weekend should be on high alert, especially if they haven’t been vaccinated.
Measles is highly contagious, and symptoms include a fever, cough and red rash.
Anyone displaying symptoms should see their doctor immediately.
