POLICE OFFICERS TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER EXPOSURE TO CHEMICAL SUBSTANCE

Four police officers were taken to hospital this morning after being exposed to an unknown chemical substance at the Port Macquarie Police Station.

At about 10:30, the officers returned from an investigation with a number of items including a glass bottle containing a crystal-like substance.

A male officer sustained minor burns after opening the bottle, while three others were exposed to fumes.

Part of the station was cordoned off for more than an hour, while HAZMAT crews neutralised the substance.

The officers returned to work shortly after being treated.
