KEVIN HOGAN MP CALLS FOR TOUGHER ARSON PENALTIES

Page MP Kevin Hogan wants tougher penalties for arsonists, after it was revealed more than 50-percent of the region’s bushfires were deliberately lit.
Mr Hogan says the current non-parole period of nine years should be doubled.
180 arson-related arrests have been made across the state since the start of the bushfire season.
“They have literally wiped out people’s livelihood, just completely almost wiped out Rappville and caused a lot of emotional angst. I think they should get a similar sentence as people do for manslaughter or murder and that’s 20 years, non-parole.”
