MOSQUITO INFECTIONS SURGE ACROSS THE NORTH COAST

Local health authorities are urging residents to protect themselves against mosquitoes after a surge in infections across the North Coast.

There has been 153 cases of the Ross River virus in the region, so far this year, which is three times the amount for the same period last year.

“With the warm weather persisting with the rain we’re actually seeing an increase in the number of mosquitoes but more importantly we’ve actually seen an increased report of people with infections,” Paul Williamson from the NSW Public Health Unit said.

Anyone with symptoms, including a rash, fever or swollen joints, is encouraged to visit their GP.
