Lismore City Council will invest more than half-a-million-dollars to make sure Nimbin is bushfire ready, after a devastating summer.
Emergency service infrastructure will be upgraded at the Nimbin showgrounds, thanks to a $1.3m grant from the federal bushfire recovery program.
“People had to leave their homes, leave their communities and here at the Nimbin Showgrounds up to 150 people per day were staying for what could be up to a couple of weeks,” Lismore Mayor Isaac Smith said.
Council is consulting with the RFS and the community as it moves ahead with the project.
