HORSE EUTHANISED AFTER CONTRACTING HENDRA VIRUS ON FAR NORTH COAST

The first case of Hendra virus in New South Wales this year has been recorded at a property south of Murwillumbah.

A 17-year-old unvaccinated thoroughbred horse tested positive and was euthanised over the weekend after its condition worsened.

Horse owners are being asked to vaccinate their animals and keep an eye out for the signs of Hendra virus, which include a high temperature, muscle spasms and twitching.
